When Dr Peter Kixley disappears, his friend, mythology expert David Hilton, is called on by the Vatican to help find him. It soon becomes clear why the police have drawn a blank, as Kixley held the key to a legendary relic of ancient Britain and has been kidnapped by armed cultists who plan to use the Idol for their own evil purposes.

With the aid of Peter's beautiful assistant, Lucy Lake, David plunges into his friend's mysterious world of black magic and murderous obsession. Out of their depth and on the run, they must find a way to stop the cult's crazed and secretive leader from unleashing an evil so powerful that it could destroy all mankind. But when Lucy is captured, can David save the world and the woman he loves?
